2012 05 24

Two days ago we went on the road to Hana for the second time. This time we didn’t do as much, but we did go to a black sand beach.  At the beach we did a lot of body surfing. The sand is black because it was lava rock that crumbled down to size. After that we we went to a lava tube. A lava tube is a place where lava used to flow and made a tube that you can walk through. Don’t worry, lava hasn’t flowed for thousands of years in this tube. They gave us flashlights because it was really dark. In fact, it was pitch black. The next day, we went up Haleakala. It is a 10,000 foot tall mountain. When we got to the top it was really cold. Mom did not want to get out of the car cause it was so cold. When we drove back the road had a lot of swerves.
 Mahalo!

Above and below are pictures of the black sand beach
The below pictures are all from the lava tube

the below picture shows what the wall and ceiling of the lava tube looked like - like dripping chocolate

Below is your email and beneath it is the answers to your questions:

 Hi Miya,

I've tried to comment on your blog twice, but can't get it to work.  I have shared all of your posts with the class, a couple of times.  They have enjoyed hearing about your travels.  I think they really like seeing the pictures too.  They have shared a few things with me that they wanted to ask you.  Like, is the weather nice there, because it is raining here and it snowed on the weekend:(  Are you still having fun or do you miss home?  We sang two songs with Paul Hann at an assembly on Friday, May 18th, one we wrote with him called "Proud to be Canadian".  We missed your nice singing voice.  Last week we planted seeds and are keeping journals watching and recording their growth.

Hope you continue to have fun on your trip.  We'll see you when you get back.
The weather is great here.  It is usually sunny but sometimes it rains a little bit.  Sometimes it's windy too.  The wind feels great.  It feels like a hair dryer.  It's really windy but it's warm too.
I am missing home a lot but I'm having a lot of fun too.

I'll see you in a little over a week!

From,
Mrs. Fraser and your friends in Room 13

Fun in the Sun

Today I went to the beach for some boogie boarding. There were some things that I call cowabungas. They are more than one huge wave stuck together. Then we had a little break at the condo. Then we had some frozen yogurt at a place called tutti fruity. It is a new yogurt place that has a different counter for the candy then the fruits. Then we went to the pool. Then I did a few math pages. And here I am, writing my blog. Last night we went to Mama’s fish house. Mama’s fish house has fish so good it is one of the top one hundred places to eat in the United States. Everyone thought it was really good. I had chicken because I don’t like to eat sea creatures. Mom had Mahi mahi stuffed with crab and lobster and coated with macadamia nuts. She said it was really good. We liked how it was decorated in Hawaiian style and how it beside a very beautiful beach.

The Road to Hana

Yesterday we went on the road to Hana. It wasn’t about the destination, it was about the journey. That was one of the Hawaiians’ favorite sayings.
the first stop we made was at a fruit stand. First we looked at some water falls then we had a coconut drink.
then we went back in the car and drove for a bit. Then we stopped  to swim at a different waterfall. It was so cold!!! The video below is of me swimming at the waterfall.
When we were still at the waterfall we had to climb a rock wall.
along the road there was lots of beautiful views.
we stopped in Hana to eat Thai food for lunch. I had salad and chicken with bamboo in it. Yum!
Next we went for a long hike in Haleakala National Park to see  the seven sacred pools. Along the way we saw some waterfalls.
on the hike we saw the big banyan tree. We climbed on it.
we saw a mongoose or two along the way … There are mongooses in Hawaii because people brought them to kill the rats but it sort of got out of hand. The mongoose hunt in the daytime and the rats come out at night. They did not really think that one through so it didn’t work out at all.

Then our trail went through the bamboo forest. The bamboo was very musical. It made a drum sound.
at the end there was a huge water fall and we had to cross a stream to get to it.

After the hike  there was a really windy road. It was so bumpy and narrow I thought we were going to fall of the cliff.

On the way home me and Liam fell asleep in the car. It was a long fun day. Ma halo! (that means thank you in Hawaiian).

May 3, 2012

Today in the morning I went to the beach. We took a bunch of wet sand and used it to make Liam look like a sand gorilla. The picture above is Liam “monkeying around”.   Next, we went to the condo and got out other bathing suits then we went to the pool. The pool was six feet deep. Liam and I went all the way to the bottom. We also met lots of new friends.  Today for the first time I tried peanut sauce at a restaurant called Maui Thai.  It tastes almost exactly like peanut butter.  We saw a lot of birds today and they would not stop chirping.  Now here I am writing my blog.  Aloha (that means hello and good bye).

We’re Here in Maui!

Were finally here! Maui is my favorite vacation spot ever! Now lets talk about the plane rides. The first one wasn’t so hard. That was the ride to Vancouver from Fort St. John. It was only an hour long and I wasn’t so impatient  at the time. The second one was a little longer. I played my 3DS the entire time. The last one was really long. It was five hours long. My DS died at the time so I just fell asleep. Now I’m here in Maui. We got here really late last night  and now it is early morning. I am going to finish this blog at the end of the day wen I have done more things.

Okay, now I’ve done more things. First I went to the beach. I finally got used to the waves. We buried Liam in sand. Then we went to the pool. They handed out really good fruit juice.  We got a lot of pictures at the pool with our under water camera. Now we are going to make a comic with them. We’ll send it as soon as possible.  Now here I am writing my blog.
